'DMK evil, TVK pure...': Vijay's poll pitch at Erode rally

Actor-politician Vijay has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu.

At a public meeting in Erode, he slammed the DMK for its governance, unfulfilled promises, and corruption.

He called the DMK an "evil force" and pitched his party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as a "clean" and "pure force."

This was Vijay's first public meeting after a tragic stampede in Karur that killed 41 people.

Vijay slammed the DMK for not keeping its promises, including banning NEET and waiving education loans.

He alleged that "crores worth of tenders were floated for research institutions but nothing was done to increase the value of turmeric."

The actor-politician also raised concerns over environmental issues, accusing the government of failing to connect rivers Bhavani, Noyyal, and Amaravathi as promised.

Vijay also spoke about economic issues, alleging that "30% weavers' payment is pending" and MSMEs were being charged "exorbitant power rates."

He slammed the DMK for calling itself a model government despite these issues.

The actor-politician clarified that he wasn't against benefit schemes but opposed calling them free while using derogatory terms for people.

Vijay also questioned why vacant posts were not filled and why student dropouts continued.

He asked if women were safe in Tamil Nadu, asking the crowd if they agreed with him.

He invoked social reformer Periyar as an inspiration for TVK's policies and criticized those misusing his name for personal gain.

Vijay made an emotional appeal to the public, recalling his bond with them from his early cinema days. He asked if they would stand with him and thanked them.

The rally was attended by thousands of supporters who were welcomed enthusiastically as Vijay arrived via chartered flight and road to the venue.

After the rally, Vijay shared a video from Erode and Instagram, writing, "Thank you Erode (folded hands emoji)."

The selfie video shows Vijay adjusting his camera in front of a large crowd waiting to greet him. The video has received over 5.5 million views in less than two hours.
