New Delhi: Patanjali founder and yoga guru Baba Ramdev is known for his Ayurvedic and effective traditional remedies. In a video, he shared treatments for chronic cold and cough. Children, in particular, suffer more from respiratory problems than just cough and cold. According to the yoga guru, if someone has had chronic cold since childhood, it continuously affects the eyes, nose, ears and throat.
Due to rising pollution levels and cold weather in Delhi-NCR, the risk of breathing-related problems has increased further. Children, the elderly and even young adults are commonly experiencing cough or breathing difficulties. GRAP-IV has been implemented in Delhi-NCR and schools have been advised to switch to online classes.
Cases of eye irritation and infections among children have also increased. People suffering from chronic cold are facing greater trouble due to pollution and winter conditions. In this article, we share Baba Ramdev’s traditional remedies that may help reduce or control long-standing nazla.
Baba Ramdev’s Ayurvedic remedies for chronic coldAccording to Swami Ramdev, Ayurvedic methods are highly effective in reducing or eliminating chronic cold, phlegm, bronchitis, sinus issues and allergies. He said medicinal oils are used in these treatments. Baba Ramdev advised nasya using a mixture of kakadshringi, mulethi (liquorice), mustard seeds, turmeric and cow ghee. Adding Patanjali’s Jyotishmati oil can enhance the benefits.
He explained that the process may feel like inhaling smoke but is not the same. The remedy involves inhaling through one nostril and exhaling through the other. He claimed this helps eliminate long-standing cold, phlegm, bacteria and fungus.
For external use, Baba Ramdev suggested applying a paste of turmeric, ginger, garlic and onion on the chest. Another option is applying a mixture of carom seeds, mint, desi camphor, clove and eucalyptus oil on a child’s chest, followed by covering it with a warm cloth. He also shared a remedy using urad flour, where a boundary is made on the chest and warm oil is poured inside it.
Mix these ingredients with milkBaba Ramdev said milk can increase phlegm, but it can still be used medicinally. He advised adding one gram each of turmeric, shilajit, mulethi, ashwagandha and dry ginger to warm milk. During severe phlegm conditions, he suggested avoiding ghee, oil, lentils, rice and roti and instead consuming chickpeas, dates and boiled apples. Millet and chickpea rotis can be eaten in winter, preferably with chyawanprash for added benefits.
He also recommended jal neti and sutra neti to naturally clean the nasal passage. Jal neti involves pouring water into one nostril and letting it flow out through the other, while sutra neti involves passing a thread through the nose and pulling it out from the mouth to cleanse the nasal tract.
