A woman says her baby used to scratch until her skin bled and blistered – but claims a £15 ‘miracle’ cream stopped it within days. When Shannon Baker noticed a painful red rash on her newborn’s skin, she rushed little Amelie to the doctors, where it was diagnosed as eczema.

Despite taking the baby, now one, off cow’s milk due to an allergy, her skin remained sore to the point where she’d bleed from scratching so much. Shannon, 28, grew hopeless trying various creams which didn’t appear to work, until a friend offered her a “miracle” lotion that was an “instant cure”.

“Amelie’s skin used to be constantly dry, scaly and sometimes weepy,” said the stay-at-home mum of two, from Thanet. “She would often cut herself, even if we had cut her nails.

“It was incredibly bad on her torso and legs. Her skin would split and cut from her scratching, which would blister and turn red. Most nights, I could hear her scratching away, which disturbed her sleep.

“It made her irritable and unhappy during the day, as well as disturbing her nap times. It was heartbreaking to see and so upsetting, as there was nothing I could do to stop the pain. I felt hopeless and scared.

“I just wanted to stop her pain and was willing to try anything.”

Shannon’s son also started having issues with eczema at around the six-week-old mark. Using various moisturisers and steroid creams, this eventually cleared up, though he still suffers from minor eczema flare-ups. The family had tried various supermarket brand creams, though she says these all resulted in “burning” her skin and blisters.

Eventually, doctors prescribed steroid creams; though, after reading about the long-term effects, Shannon decided not to go ahead with this option.

When Shannon’s friend gifted them a pot of Balmonds in February 2025, she thought it’d be another cream that wouldn’t work. But, within days, all of Amelie’s itchiness and redness disappeared.

She said: “Her skin has come on leaps and bounds. After around four days, we started to see a drastic change. She used to get a dry and flaky forehead, but it was gone straight away.

“It’s like a miracle cream. We never thought we would find something to help her skin – especially something all natural.”

Now, it’s part of the tot’s daily routine, morning and night, just to keep on top of her eczema. The balm contains beeswax, hemp seed oil and calendula and costs £15 for a 50ml tub.

Shannon added: “It’s worked wonders; not just for her skin, but for our mental health, too. Our stress levels have balanced out, as we were worrying so much about her skin. And she’s now a happy and joyful little baby.”
