This is what happened to hundreds of consumers in different areas of Ranchi recently. For example, on Saturday itself, 1165 connections in Ranchi Central Supply Division and 1331 in Kokar were automatically disconnected.
The electricity department disconnected the connections of many commercial establishments where the smart meter balance was found negative. It has been clearly stated by the department that as soon as the consumer pays the entire outstanding bill, the connection will be activated automatically.
If someone has a heavy bill burden and is unable to pay it in lump sum, then he can avail the facility of payment in installments by talking to the local executive engineer. The dues can be deposited over the ATP counter or online. But due to connection disconnection, there is heavy congestion on ATP now.
Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) has appealed to pay bills online to avoid crowding. Ranchi Electricity Supply Zone GM Manmohan Kumar warned the defaulters that smart meters are now disconnecting connections directly on arrears. Therefore, everyone should pay the bills quickly, change the meter from negative to positive so that the connection does not get disconnected and there is no hassle of restarting it.
