India’s largest airline IndiGo (IndiGo Flight Chaos Cost) is having to pay a heavy price for the prolonged disruption in flights. After over 4,500 flights were canceled and hundreds of flights were delayed last week due to poor pilot roster planning, the airline will now pay compensation of over Rs 500 crore.
This amount will be different from the refund received by the passengers. Due to this chaos, thousands of passengers were stranded for hours at airports across the country and had to face immense inconvenience.
Taking serious note of the operational shortcomings of IndiGo (IndiGo Flight Chaos Cost), aviation regulator DGCA has taken strict steps. The regulator has ordered a 10 per cent reduction in the airline’s winter flights to restore operational stability and ensure the safety and convenience of passengers.
The airline said in a statement released on the social media platform All affected passengers will be contacted directly during January.
According to IndiGo Flight Chaos Cost estimates, the total compensation amount could exceed Rs 500 crore (about $55.19 million). This compensation will be given to those passengers whose flight was canceled within 24 hours of departure or who were forced to wait at the airport for a long time.
The airline has also clarified that the refund process has been made more transparent and simpler than before, so that passengers do not face any problem in receiving the payment.
It is noteworthy that following the instructions of Delhi High Court, Indigo had also announced to give travel vouchers of Rs 10,000 to the affected passengers. Passengers can use these vouchers to book tickets on any IndiGo flight within a year. The court had ordered the airline to pay compensation for the inconvenience caused to passengers due to the cancellation of flights.
After the recent disruption, IndiGo has gradually started normalizing operations. According to news agency ANI, the airline successfully operated more than 2,050 flights on Saturday. The company said in a statement that operations have remained stable for five consecutive days and flights are operating regularly at all 138 destinations.
According to the data, more than 1,700 flights were operated on December 8, more than 1,800 on December 9 and more than 1,900 on December 10. More than 1,950 flights operated on December 11, of which only four flights had to be cancelled. Whereas on December 12, more than 2,050 flights were operated and only two flights were cancelled.
