15 killed as bus loses control, plunges into Andhra ravine

A tragic accident took place in the Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday.


A bus carrying 35 passengers, two drivers, and a cleaner lost control at a sharp turn and plunged into a ravine.


The incident occurred around 5:30am near Tulasipakalu village on the Chinturu-Bhadrachalam ghat road.


A total of 15 people died in the accident.




Rescue operations underway, injured transported to hospital
Medical response




Local police and rescue teams immediately rushed to the spot to help the passengers and clear the debris.


The district collector said seven injured persons have been shifted to CHC Chintur, about 15km from the accident site.


"A rescue operation is going on. After stabilization, we will move the injured to Bhadrachalam," he added.


The bus reportedly swerved off the road while negotiating a sharp curve in the forested ghats, causing it to plunge down a steep incline.




Prime Minister and Chief Minister express condolences
Official response




Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the incident and announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh from the PMNRF to the families of those who died. He also announced ₹50,000 for those injured in the accident.


Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu also expressed shock at the incident. He spoke to officials about relief measures for the injured and ordered senior officials to rush to the accident site immediately.
