Desk: In the cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, three major decisions were taken including conducting census across the country. A budget of Rs 11,718 crore has been approved for the census starting in 2027. For the first time, there will be a digital census across the country. For this, 30 lakh employees will be employed.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that census will be conducted across the country from 2027. This census will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be house listing and housing census, which will be conducted from April to September 2026, while the second phase will be population census, which will be conducted from February 2027. He said that the digital design of the census has been prepared keeping in mind data protection.

Regarding ‘Coal Setu’, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, any domestic buyer can participate in the linkage auction. Coal linkage holders can export up to 50 percent. To prevent market manipulation, traders will not be allowed to participate. Along with this, he said that the Cabinet has approved the budget of Rs 11 thousand 718 crore for Census 2027.
