A group of aspiring football coaches were given the unique opportunity to learn from England Under 21 Assistant Manager, Ashley Cole, and Lioness legend, Fara Williams, during a coaching masterclass at Wembley Stadium this weekend.

The coaches received top tips from the dynamic duo, before being given a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play a match on the hallowed Wembley turf. The group then gained first-hand insights from the former internationals, who shared career advice whilst reflecting on the crucial role coaches play in both communities and supporting individuals.

The participants were selected as winners from a prize draw held for individuals who had completed a Chase-funded course within the Chase football coaching programme. The programme provides fully-funded access to coaching qualifications for people where cost is a barrier across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Research from YouGov, commissioned by Chase, revealed that one of the biggest barriers preventing people from under resourced communities in the U.K. pursuing coaching was the cost of qualifications. Almost half of those surveyed (44%) said that financial support would help alleviate barriers to football coaching.

Meanwhile existing coaches believe that coaching can be the gateway to transferable skills leading to future employment, with three quarters (75%) saying their qualification has helped them develop key life skills.

Through the programme, Chase is empowering more individuals to unlock their potential, increasing representation in coaching to inspire future generations, and creating pathways towards employment. So far, 2,850 aspiring coaches have already achieved coaching qualifications in England since the programme launched in 2024.

Ashley Cole, former England Men’s player and current England U21's Assistant Manager, commented: ‘It’s been brilliant to welcome such an inspiring group of coaches to Wembley and share advice that they can hopefully use in their future careers. Football coaches have the power to play such a positive role in society, as may did throughout my early and professional career, so it’s great that Chase is providing more opportunities for people to get their qualifications and make a difference.”

Fara Williams, Lioness legend and most-capped player, commented: "Coaches have had an incredible impact on me over my career. They are great role models for young people, helping them build skills and shape their growth and development. I highly recommend anyone with a passion for football to look into the Chase football coaching programme, it's a fantastic opportunity to get your qualifications and make a difference in your community."

Ahmed Omar, Chase football coaching programme beneficiary, said: “Playing at Wembley today and getting the opportunity to learn from legends like Ashley and Fara has been such an incredible experience. Hearing from them first-hand about the power of coaching has inspired me to continue my personal journey and I’m happy that the Chase football coaching programme has encouraged me to pursue my dream.”

Deborah Keay, Chief Marketing Officer at Chase, added: “At Chase, we’re passionate about expanding access to coaching by removing barriers to entry. Giving aspiring coaches the chance to learn from role models like Ashley and Fara helps build their confidence and gives them the inspiration they need to progress in their coaching journey.
