Taking a big decision on Thursday, Delhi Cabinet has passed the proposal to convert the existing 11 districts into 13 new districts. Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena will be sent to implement this. These new districts will be completely aligned with the 12 zones of MCD, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and Delhi Cantonment Board. With this change, the number of SDM offices will increase from 33 to 39. A mini secretariat will be built in every district, where most of the government services will be available at one place. CM Rekha Gupta has already announced this.

Earlier there were 11 revenue districts in Delhi – Central, East, New Delhi, North, North East, North West, Shahdara, South, South East, South West and West. But due to 12 zones of MCD and separate areas of NDMC-Cantonment, there used to be confusion and fights at places. South-East and Shahdara districts were last formed in 2012. CM said that our government solved the years-old problem in just 10 months. This decision will increase transparency and accountability.
