With Brits rewatching their favourite Christmas films, they might be left wondering if there's anywhere quite like the quaint villages taking centre stage in festive classics. One village in particular stands out - Sherein Surrey.

Situated just an hour south of London, Shere boasts everything one might anticipate from a quintessential English village, featuring charming local pubs and ideal natural surroundings for a countryside walk. What sets it apart from other villages, however, is that millions have already witnessed its picturesque scenes without ever knowing its location. Sherefeatured in the beloved Christmas romantic comedy The Holiday, featuring Kate Winslet and Jude Law, among others. It served as the backdrop for several scenes in the popular Christmas film, with many of the locations still accessible to visitors today. There is a field featuring a bench that overlooks St James' Church, a location that keen-eyed viewers might recognise from a scene where Cameron Diaz walks towards the cottage she resides in for most of the film.

Although the cottage no longer exists, the footpaths in Shere lead you directly past the church, which was established in 1190 and is perched on a small hill. A quaint cemetery can be found just outside the church grounds.

The village also boasts two local pubs, one of which, The White Horse, was featured in the film during a scene where Amanda (Diaz) and Graham (Law) share a meal together - and it remains virtually unchanged since its cinematic debut.

Originally constructed as a farmhouse in 1425, The White Horse underwent expansions in the 1600s before becoming an inn in the 1700s.

A 1995 refurbishment uncovered a hidden cellar containing brandy casks from the 1700s and the bones of a Victorian girl, who some believe still haunts the pub.

A woman called Candace, who has dedicated herself to showcasing her favourite destinations in and around London, has turned to TikTok to encourage some of her 92,100 followers to include Shere on their must-visit list.

"There's a village just an hour from London, fit with churches, cosy pubs, storybook houses, with countryside walks perfect for a weekend break," she explained in her video. "And quaint tea rooms with the best scones you'll ever have."

Throughout her video, Candace displayed footage and highlights from her own visit, featuring strolls through the charming streets, browsing in local independent shops, whilst also exploring and relishing a countryside walk.

Besides The Holiday, parts of Four Weddings and a Funeral, Bridget Jones, and The Wedding Date were also filmed in Shere.
