RODNEY gets the vote to atone for a final-fence capitulation at Bangor-on-Dee last time to lift the Aztec Aerosols Spray Some Joy Novices' Handicap Chase (1.25) at Warwick pn Thursday.

The son of Golden Horn missed the target in 10 starts in the care of Shark Hanlon before a switch to Kerry Lee at the turn of the year.

Rodney showed improvement for his new trainer with victories in handicap hurdles at Taunton and Ffos Las in February and April.

And Rodney would have continued in similar vein on his chasing debut – his seasonal reappearance was the gelding’s first outing for 194 days – in north Wales at the end of October.

A 13-2 chance in a field of nine, Rodney, carrying top weight of 12st, enjoyed a four-length lead when coming down at the last of the 12 obstacles.

IInevitably, my selection went up in the weights and is on a 5lb higher mark here.
But Rodney looks to have a bright future over fences and can make amends.

At Taunton, SMUGGLERS HAVEN, successful under Lily Bradstock in a contest for amateur riders at Cheltenham 48 days ago, is taken to carry on the good work in the Prestige Holidays Novices' Handicap Chase (2.05).
