Lisa Faulkner has opened up on a new project she "hasn't done for a long time" as she admitted the new move has been a "big challenge". The actress, 53, is set to make a return to stage for the first time in 23 years as she stars in the stage production of Single White Female alongside former Strictly Come Dancing star Kym Marsh. Ahead of the UK tour, Lisa appeared on Wednesday's (December 10) episode of BBC Breakfast alongside hosts Jon Kay and Sarah Campball and opened up on her new career move.

Sarah pointed out: "It's exciting and a little bit nerve racking because it is massively different isn't it because we all know you from telly but not stage. How long has it been since you were last on stage?" Lisa revealed: "It was 23 years ago. It is a bit different because when you're doing TV and you're acting, you get to do a little bit of research on your character and you learn your lines.

"Then they put you where they want you and they tell you a few things you have to do and you just do it. You also get to have another take but this is beginning to end live, with a lot of lines."

In a candid moment, she admitted: "You know what I love the fact that I am 53 and I'm going to do something that I haven't done in so long. It's such a big challenge but really exciting and I love acting and it just makes my heart beat."

Jon jumped in: "Is that why you wanted to push yourself out of your comfort zone."

Lisa replied: "Yes. When I read the script, I was thinking maybe I want to do some theatre, I put it out there into the universe so when the script came I read it and thought this is brilliant and I would really like to do it.

"I thought I would really love to go and see it in the theatre and that to me is a really good indication - if you want to see it or want to watch it then I'm in."

The production is adapted from the 1992 Columbia Pictures film and the novel by John Lutz. Lisa and co-star Kym Marsh will lead the tour as Hedy and Allie.

They are joined by Andro as Graham, Jonny McGarrity as Sam and Amy Snudden as Bella. Understudies are Francesca McBride, Patrick McHugh and Anna Ruben.

The play has been adapted by Rebecca Reid and opens at Theatre Royal Brighton on 9 January 2026 before touring until June. Tickets are available now.

Previously speaking about her return to stage, Lisa said: "I'm delighted to be returning to the stage playing opposite the utterly fantastic Kym Marsh.

"I got chills watching Single White Female in the cinema back in 1992 so it's a real thrill to be part of this bold new production. I cannot wait to bring this fascinating story to life and keep audiences around the UK on the edge of their seats!"

BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer
