Delhi Pollution: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said that the national capital’s air quality index (AQI) stayed in the “poor” category at 269 for the second day in a row. Nevertheless, the city is still covered in haze and pollution levels are high. While nine monitoring sites continued to record “very poor” levels, twenty-eight recorded “poor” air quality, an improvement.

With AQIs of 324 and 319, respectively, NSIT, Dwarka, and Bawana recorded the most filthy values on Wednesday. Only Mandir Marg, Aya Nagar, and IGI Airport T3 rated “moderate” air quality.

The “moderate” AQI of 144 was observed in Faridabad, but the “poor” AQI of 231 was registered in Gurugram. Indirapuram in Ghaziabad recorded 253 “poor,” while Yamuna Nagar registered 223. Greater Noida had a “moderate” AQI of 192, Noida had a “poor” AQI of 297, and Gorakhpur had a “satisfactory” AQI of 77. Muzaffarnagar likewise fell into the “moderate” category with an AQI of 194.

Delhi’s air quality remained mostly in the “very poor” range, with some areas reporting dangerously high AQI values. Numerous locations reported significantly worsened circumstances, including Wazirpur (305), Shadipur (238), Akshardham (354 and 319), Siri Fort (289), Bawana (320), DTU (302), Jahangirpuri (313), Mundka (313), Nehru Nagar (311), and Vivek Vihar (306). While still below healthy standards, the air quality was comparatively improved in a few places. India Gate and Kartavya Path had “poor” AQIs of 225, while IGI Airport T-3 had a “moderate” AQI of 169. Overall, the data shows that the city’s air quality has been steadily declining.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy fog and freezing temperatures on Wednesday (December 9) as a cold wave engulfs the nation’s capital. It is predicted that the low temperature will drop to 7 degrees Celsius, resulting in very chilly mornings and evenings. The IMD predicts that the low temperature will be 7 degrees Celsius and the highest temperature may reach around 25 degrees Celsius.


Delhi’s total AQI on Tuesday morning was 292—in the “poor” category—with some places falling into the “very poor” range. Particularly concerning readings of 319 were recorded from places like Akshardham, Ghazipur, and Anand Vihar.
