New Delhi: The England team has suffered another big blow during the Ashes series, as the team’s leading fast bowler Mark Wood is now out of the entire series. This is a serious matter for England, which has already faced defeat in two Tests.
35-year-old Mark Wood took part in the first Test in Perth, but during this he faced problem in his left knee. After this he also withdrew from the second Test held in Brisbane. It has now become clear that this is a resurgence of his old injury. This was his first competitive match after undergoing knee surgery in February this year.
The England Cricket Board (ECB) has decided that Wood will return to India this week, where he will begin rehabilitation under the supervision of the medical team. Wood’s career has been hampered by injuries several times, and now his latest injury is raising questions over the future of English cricket.
In the absence of Mark Wood, England have included Surrey fast bowler Matthew Fisher in their team. Fisher is currently in Australia with the England Lions and has taken only two wickets in three matches for the Lions. In the recent match against Australia A in Brisbane, he conceded 105 runs in 31 overs but could not claim any wickets.
The 28-year-old Fisher has only one Test match experience, which was against West Indies in 2022, in which he took one wicket. Now he may get a chance in the third Test starting from December 17 in Adelaide.
After losing two Tests, England are trailing 0-2 in the Ashes series. The fast bowling department is already missing experienced bowlers like James Anderson and Ollie Robinson. Mark Wood’s absence is proving to be a serious drawback for the team.
