New Delhi: From North India to Central and Eastern India, the weather has started taking hold. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding dense fog and dangerous ‘cold wave’ in many parts of the country for the next 3 to 4 days. The department has advised people, especially drivers, to take extra caution in the morning as visibility may be very low.

Where will the blanket of fog spread?


According to IMD, visibility is going to be very low in the morning for the next few days.



  • Assam and Manipur: There will be dense fog in the morning in these states from 9 to 13 December.

  • Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Odisha: There is an alert of dense fog in these areas also on 9 and 10 December.


‘Cold wave’ will prevail in these states, the cold will shiver!


Along with fog, the storm of icy winds is also about to begin in many states.



  • Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha: There is a possibility of cold wave in many areas of these states from 9 to 12 December.

  • Punjab: The effect of cold wave will be seen here also from 10th to 12th December.

  • Bihar and Telangana: There is a cold wave warning in these two states on 9 and 10 December.

  • Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, North Rajasthan, Central Maharashtra and Marathwada: Cold wave will show its effect in all these places on 11 and 12 December.


What is the condition of Bihar, UP and Jharkhand?



  • Jharkhand: The state is already in the grip of severe cold. The mercury has dropped below 10 degrees in most of the districts and there is no hope of getting relief from the cold for the next one week.

  • Bihar and UP: The havoc of cold can be seen the most in these two states. An alert of ‘severe cold wave’ has been issued in the morning in Patna, Purnia, Kishanganj in Bihar and Lucknow, Kanpur, Agra, Prayagraj in UP.


Where and how much will the mercury fall?



  • North-West India (Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan): Night temperatures may fall further by 2 degrees in the next two days, which will increase the cold. However, after this the temperature may increase by 2 to 4 degrees in the next three days, which will provide some relief.

  • Central India (MP, Chhattisgarh): Night temperatures will remain almost constant for the next four days.

  • Maharashtra: In the next four days, the night temperature may gradually decrease by 2-3 degrees, which will increase the cold.

  • Gujarat and Eastern India: No significant change in temperature will be seen here.


Overall, the next few days may be very cold and difficult for North and Central India. People are advised to wear warm clothes and take special care while leaving the house in the morning and evening.
