A motorcyclist narrowly avoided a fatal bus crash in Hanoi after a sudden stop sent him sliding head-first toward the wheel of a moving passenger bus.

The incident occurred on Nguyen Trai Street on Nov. 29 when the young man, reportedly riding his motorcycle at a fairly high speed while attempting to overtake traffic, braked suddenly and fell onto the road. He slid dangerously close to a bus traveling in the same direction.

In a miraculous turn of events, the front of his helmet struck the bus’s tire, which served to push him away from the path of the wheel. He rolled over once and escaped the collision without being crushed.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving on busy roads, emphasizing that drivers must control their speed and maintain a safe distance, not only from the vehicle in front but also from surrounding vehicles.

Motorcyclists, in particular, should avoid speeding and weaving through traffic, as these maneuvers often lead to sudden, startling situations that necessitate abrupt braking.

When performing an emergency brake on a motorbike, riders are advised to use both brakes simultaneously. Using only the front or rear brake can easily cause the rider to fall due to skidding or losing balance.

The recommended technique involves fully releasing the throttle first to allow the engine to assist in reducing speed, and then applying both the front and rear brakes simultaneously to reduce the chance of skidding.
