A huge 7.2-magnitude earthquake has struck off the northern coast of Japan, sparking an urgent tsunami alert. The quake occurred at 7:45:09 PM local time on December 8. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, a maximum three-metre high tsunami is likely to take place.
