International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025: Today i.e. on 3rd December, International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 is being celebrated like every year across the world. This day is a special occasion to honor the rights of the disabled and respect them like everyone else in the country. Every person in this world is not the same and is not perfect.

The non-functioning of a part of one’s body does not make one an object of ridicule or neglect. It should be the duty of the country to give that person special place and rights. On this Disabled Day, we will know what are the rights that every disabled person should have. There is also the story of finding the word ‘Divyang’.

Theme of International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The World Health Organization celebrates this special day in collaboration with the United Nations. The theme of this day keeps changing every year. Therefore, if we talk about the theme of 2025 this year, “Fostering disability-inclusive societies for advancing social progress” i.e. “Fostering disability-inclusive societies so that social progress can be possible.” The aim of the country should be not to violate the rights of persons with disabilities but to make them aware of their rights. International Day of Persons with Disabilities is about promoting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities at every level of society and development and raising awareness about the status of persons with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.

The main objective behind celebrating the day is for people with disabilities to participate fully, equally and effectively in society along with others, and not face any barriers in all aspects of their lives.

rights for disabled people

Now the rights of disabled people are being strengthened in the country. Disability rights in India are undergoing a transformational change, driven by the government’s commitment towards inclusivity and empowerment for persons with disabilities (PWDs). The objective is to ensure that every person with a disability, regardless of ability, can access opportunities and participate fully in society.

Divyang name changed in Mann Ki Baat

Talking about this day, in the year 2015, PM Modi gave the new name “Divyang” to disabled people in his Mann Ki Baat program. Regarding this, PM Modi had said that the word ‘Divyang’ should be used for the disabled, because they have an additional power. Words have their own importance, the one whom God has given some deficiency in the body, we call him disabled. Sometimes when we meet them, we come to know that we can see their shortcomings through our eyes, but God has given them some extra power.
