The best train journey in Europe has been named, and it has some incredible scenery. Train travel around Europe is a popular option for many tourists, as it allows travellers to see multiple places across the continent in one trip. Interrailing passes are a great way to squeeze many cities into just a couple of weeks, while internal trains allow tourists to explore more than just the capital city of a country.

Travel experts have revealed their pick for the most scenic train journey to take in Europe in 2026, and it's located in an underrated country that many Brits have never visited before. Esteemed travel publication Time Out has released its list of the most scenic train journeys across Europe, and the top spot went to a route that connects two underexplored cities, between which there are stunning mountains and countryside views.

Topping the list of their picks for next year is the train journey between Oslo and Bergen in Norway. Norway is a stunning Scandinavian country, known for its fjords, mountains and lakes.

The train journey has been described as a "fairytale" by Time Out, painting a serene picture of the experience. "The voyage plays out like a living painting of all four seasons, as blustery flower meadows and lush valleys fade into icy forests of pine and glittering lakes."

They also stated that it's not just the best in Europe, but among the very best worldwide. Tourists should start their journey early in the morning to ensure they capture the best views during the day, with spectacular scenes on both sides of the tracks.

There are multiple highlights to look out for when travelling from Oslo to Bergen. Among them is Hallingdal Valley, a stunning spot in Eastern Norway.

You also go through Geilo, a stunning mountain village at the midway point of the journey. The train also climbs up the Hardangervidda valley in the second half of the journey, offering amazing views from a high elevation.

Voss is the last major stop before reaching Bergen, which is known as the adventure capital of the country, thanks to activities such as rafting. You can book tickets to any of these stops or go all the way from Oslo, the capital of Norway, to Bergen.

Oslo is full of fun things to do for tourists, and starting your trip there will give you just a small taste of what Norway has to offer. Some of the top attractions in Oslo include the Fram Museum, Vigeland Park, and the National Museum, among others.

In Bergen, there is also plenty to do, such as Mount Floyen and the Funicular, the Mount Ulriken Cable Car and the Kode Art Museum. From Bergen, you can also go on boat tours that take you around the magnificent Fjords.
