After losing the IND vs SA Test series, India gave their fans plenty to cheer about in the format they have dominated for the last few years by winning the India vs South Africa three-ODI series with a 2-1 scoreline.

The IND vs SA ODI series win was a huge relief for head coach Gautam Gambhir as India avoided the ignominy of losing both the Test and ODI series as part of the same bilateral tour at home since 1986-87.

It was as if Virat Kohli turned the clock back to his heydays of 2015-2019, when he would churn out centuries and half-centuries with seemingly utter ease and consistency. The former Indian captain struck two centuries and an unbeaten half-century to sweep the Man of the Series award.

Kohli’s senior partner, Rohit Sharma, carried on from his century in Sydney last month and whacked two tone-setting half-centuries, both ending up in a winning cause.

While the senior duo were phenomenal, two youngsters and fringe batsmen made headlines as well, giving further indication of India’s bright future in the ODI format as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad recorded their respective maiden ODI centuries in the absence of Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

While Gaikwad’s ton from No. 4 in Raipur went in vain as India lost the IND vs SA 2nd ODI, Jaiswal’s unbeaten century helped India ace the chase of 271 inside 40 overs in the series-decider in Visakhapatnam.

With this, Jaiswal became only the sixth Indian batsman to hit a century in all three formats of international cricket.

In 2010, Suresh Raina became the first batsman to record centuries in all three forms of the game for India. He was then followed by Rohit, KL Rahul, and Kohli. The new additions to this list are Shubman Gill and Jaiswal.

West Indies legend Chris Gayle was the first player to achieve this feat of hundreds in all formats of international cricket. And so far, 32 batsmen have done so, and five women batters have also attained this tally, including India’s Smriti Mandhana.
