New Delhi: Indias largest airline IndiGo is currently in big trouble as the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sent a direct notice to the company. For the past few days flights on several routes have either been delayed or cancelled causing considerable inconvenience to passengers.

The DGCA stated that IndiGo failed to properly manage its team and operational preparations on time and this is why the entire system broke down. Seeing this situation the regulatory body has held the airlines top official accountable and directly asked for an explanation as to how such a major disruption occurred.
CEO held responsible
The notice has been sent directly to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers. The DGCA says that the ultimate responsibility for the airline rests with the CEO and when passengers suffer inconvenience the top official will have to answer for it. The organisation has clearly stated that flight operations have gone against regulations and passenger trust is being eroded which is unacceptable under any circumstances.
Action if no response within 24 hours
The DGCA has asked the CEO to explain within 24 hours why strict action should not be taken against him. This could include heavy fines suspension of operations or other administrative measures. The organisation says that IndiGo must immediately rectify its preparations so that passengers do not face further difficulties.
Crew planning disrupted the entire schedule
The DGCAs initial investigation revealed that IndiGo failed to properly manage the duty and rest periods of its crew i.e. pilots and cabin staff. Several flights were short-staffed and teams had to be changed at the last minute. The airline also did not have sufficient backup teams during holidays and peak seasons which led to continuous delays.
Passengers were constantly complaining
In the past few days passenger complaints have increased rapidly on social media. Many people wrote that boarding was repeatedly delayed they had to wait for hours and some flights were suddenly cancelled without prior notice. Indigo has the largest network so a single problem can have far-reaching consequences. Indigo is the countrys largest flight operator and its disruptions affect the entire aviation sector.
