News India Live, Digital Desk: We find winters very pleasant. Hot tea, sunbathing and talking sitting under the quilt… everything feels good. But friends, for those whose heart is a little weak or who suffer from BP, this season is no less than a test. You must have often heard that the cases of heart attack suddenly increase in winter. Have you ever wondered why this happens? Actually, due to cold, there is contraction in our veins, due to which the heart has to work harder to pump blood. This increases blood pressure and puts a load on the heart. Senior cardiologists have suggested some special precautions. If there is a heart patient or an elderly person in your house, then these 7 things will work as a ‘sanjeevani’ for them.1. Change the time of morning walk: We Indians have a habit of getting up at 5 in the morning and taking a walk. But it can be dangerous for heart patients to go out early in the morning in the harsh cold. Doctor’s opinion: Wait for the sun to rise. Go for a walk only when the sun is shining. If it is very cold outside, take a light walk indoors.2. Wear several thin clothes instead of one thick coat, this is a very important tip. We often wear a heavy jacket. But experts say to do ‘layering’. That is, wear two-three warm clothes, one on top of the other. Hot air gets trapped between the layers of clothes, which gives more warmth to the body and the effect of cold does not reach the heart.3. Don’t stop drinking water. We feel less thirsty in winter, so we reduce water drinking. Due to this, the blood starts thickening and the risk of clotting increases. Remedy: Keep drinking lukewarm water throughout the day so that the body remains hydrated and blood flow remains proper. 4. Control on salt and oil (Diet Control) In winter, one feels like eating parathas, pakodas and pickles. But remember, too much salt will increase BP and too much oil will increase cholesterol. Include fresh fruits, vegetables and dry fruits (like walnuts) in your diet. It gives warmth and strength to the body from within.5. Caution in bathing: Never bathe with very cold water. Suddenly pouring cold water on the head can cause ‘cold shock’, which shrinks the nerves. Always use lukewarm water and pay attention to the temperature in the bathroom.6. Do not be negligent in taking medicines: Often people do not go to the doctor for checkup in winter due to laziness. Check your BP regularly at home. If the doctor has prescribed any blood thinning medicine, do not miss it even for a day.7. Do not ignore the pain by mistaking it for gas, this is the biggest mistake. Sometimes heaviness in the chest, sweating or pain in the jaw can be symptoms of a heart attack. In winter we think that “I must have got acidity, I ate pakodas”. Warning: If you feel any such discomfort, do not take the risk. Go to the doctor immediately.
