The World Cup 2026 draw in Washington D. C on Friday was a spectacle to behold. Even before the first ball was drawn, those in attendance and viewers at home were treated to over an hour of entertainment.

From Andrea Bocelli's breathtaking opening performance to Gianni Infantino's crowd-rousing antics with chants and humour. Despite some social media backlash, the event proceeded smoothly. The draw itself was favourable for England; the team, considered one of the tournament favourites, will be aiming to top a group that includes Croatia, Ghana, and Panama.

But it wasn't all about football. Some moments were rather intriguing. Here are some highlights you might have missed....

Cringe-worthy viral selfie

In a draw filled with spectacle, performances, and awkward moments, the interaction between FIFA president Gianni Infantino and the leaders of the USA, Mexico, and Canada left many cringing.

After leading chants for the USA, Mexico, or Canada inside the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, Infantino invited U.S. President Donald Trump, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney onto the stage to reveal which groups the three host nations would be representing.

As they prepared to exit the stage, Infantino, in what appeared to be a rehearsed moment, decided to request a selfie with the trio before producing his phone and striking a pose. BBC commentator Jonathan Pearce was scathing in his assessment of the FIFA president. On one occasion, he remarked: "The man knows no shame." He subsequently observed: "Hopefully the draw will be finished in time for the first match in June."

Dublin's Kane gaffe

During the BBC's broadcast of the World Cup draw, former striker Dion Dublin made a blunder whilst reflecting on England's disappointment in Qatar. Dublin commented that Harry Kane "never lets us down" following his equaliser from the spot.

Regrettably, the remark came back to haunt him moments later when Kane's penalty miss was displayed. The England captain squandered a penalty during the quarter-final clash with France as the Three Lions were knocked out.

Social media users were swift to notice the error. One commented: "Dion Dublin on Harry Kane. He's never let us down, has he' and then they show him missing."

Another wrote: "Dion Dublin saying 'Kane never lets us down' about 12 seconds before footage of Kane blazing a penalty over the bar is a lovely touch."

Rio's awkward exchange

During the draw, various ex-pros were interviewed from the crowd, and banter was shared back to those on stage. And at one point, Rio Ferdinand and Yaya Toure found themselves talking about each other.

Danny Ramirez was the one speaking to former footballers. After asking Toure about the Ivory Coast's draw, the actor made an awkward point about the former Manchester City midfielder and ex-Manchester United defender. He said: "I know you and Rio, you used to play for rival clubs. Are you guys friends?" to which Toure replied: "Yeah, yeah, yeah."

Ferdinand seemed a little less pleased with the line of questioning, as he responded: "Haha, what you trying to do here Danny? I know you're trying to get in the middle here, what are you doing?"

Ramirez said: "I'm trying to start it up," before Ferdinand continued: "But I haven't really forgiven Yaya for that 2012 title race where they took it off us but it's fine... I'm over it man, come on, let me live man."

Uncomfortable moment

When Infantino invited Trump onto the stage to perform the draw for the home nations, he followed Sheinbaum and Carney. While the previous duo appeared to adhere to the rehearsed protocol of acknowledging the FIFA president before taking their position, Trump did not.

The U. S President made his entrance unconventionally, bypassing Infantino and heading directly to his designated spot.

Despite Infantino's attempts to guide Trump towards him, he eventually gave up, resulting in a slightly awkward shared chuckle between the two.
