Saudi Arabian clubs are already putting a plan in place for a sensational move for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian forward only signed a new deal with the Reds in the summer until 2027.

But Salah’s future at Anfield is now in fresh doubt after being benched by Arne Slot in Liverpool’s last two games. That has led to former Liverpool star Jamie Redknapp suggesting that Salah could look to quit the club should the situation not improve.

Of course, any move would have to wait until the January transfer window but clubs have already started being linked with the forward. There are invariably whispers of Saudi Arabia and it appears clubs in the Middle East are already putting potential plans into place.

According to The Telegraph, the Saudi Pro League are in a position to finance a move for Salah should he express a desire to leave Liverpool. It is believed that previous conversations that were held in 2023 regarding a move to Al-Ittihad could be crucial in any potential move to the Middle East.

"I thought there was a good opportunity to join the Saudi Pro League," Salah previously said about a potential move to Saudi. "I believed I might go there if I didn't renew my contract with Liverpool.

"My relationship with people there [in Saudi Arabia] is still good and ongoing. There were serious negotiations to sign me."

Some Saudi clubs under the Public Investment Fund banner have already scaled back spending but fresh funds are still available. Some players who moved to Gulf state in their initial round of investment are set to come to the end of contracts and expected to leave, which could clear the way for more lucrative deals.

Redknapp has already backed Salah to move to Saudi Arabia sooner rather than later. He said: "I'll be amazed if he sees out the last two years of his contract, or year and a half. I don't think this helps the situation one bit. Nothing will surprise me in football - whether it's in January or maybe in the summer.

"If the right club was to come around... a lot will be decided by this man. He's earned that right. And if he says: 'Look, if I'm not going to be a starter for you, I'm not one of those players who is going to hang around. I will go wherever it takes.' I still feel he will want to play in Europe.

"The first thing we're all going to say is he'll go to Saudi - he's obviously a legend in that part of the world - or he'll want to go to the US, but this for me now is a real breaking point in the relationship.”
