Lucknow, 4 December. Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal has become strict against Bangladeshis and Rohingyas living illegally in the capital and has issued instructions to take immediate strict action against them.


In fact, after receiving continuous complaints, Mayor Kharkwal herself along with the team of Municipal Corporation and ETF on Thursday reached Bahadurpur in Shankarpurwa first ward near Gudamba police station area, where a large number of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are living illegally in slums.


Seeing the convoy many youths fled from the spot, Silence on asking for identity card


As soon as the mayor’s convoy reached the area, many Bangladeshi and Rohingya youths living there were seen running away from the spot, while many women started hiding in their huts. The Mayor, through the team, asked for Aadhar card, NRC certificate and other valid documents from everyone, but most of the Bangladeshis and Rohingyas could not show any identity card. The Mayor took a tough stance on this and ordered immediate action.


50 illegal carts seized from the spot


During this action in the presence of Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, Additional Municipal Commissioner Lalit Kumar, Zonal Sanitary Officer Ajit Rai, Municipal Corporation team and ETF officials were present on the spot. During the investigation, 50 illegal carts parked there were confiscated on the spot. The Mayor gave clear instructions to the officials that all these vehicles should be immediately seized and action should be taken as per rules.


Along with this, two Tata Magic vehicles, which were being used to carry garbage illegally, were immediately seized. The mayor ordered officials to impose heavy fines on these vehicles and maintain regular surveillance to prevent such activities.


Instructions to disconnect illegal electricity connections


The Mayor also called the SDO of the Electricity Department on the spot and directed to immediately disconnect all the illegal electricity connections in the area. He said that using electricity without any valid permission is a serious crime and is also a security threat.



15 Show valid documents within days otherwise vacate Lucknow


Sushma Kharkwal told the illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas present there in a strict tone that they were being given only 15 days time. If they do not present valid documents within this period, they will have to vacate the area completely. He said that no foreigner will be allowed to live in Lucknow city without identification and permission.


The Mayor directed the officials to keep a special vigil in the area for the coming 15 days and conduct checking campaigns from time to time so that the illegally living Bangladeshis and Rohingyas are not able to settle here again. Local people welcomed this initiative of the Mayor.
