Earthquake in Bangladesh: Mild earthquake tremors were felt in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka and surrounding districts on Thursday morning. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 30 kilometers in Narsingdi district at around 6.14 am. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.1. People were seen running out of their homes due to the sudden earthquake.

According to experts, due to light depth the tremors were not strong and did not cause any major problems. However, when the tremors were felt, people became a little nervous and many came out of their homes. Dhaka administration said that neither any building was damaged nor any person was reported injured.

Earthquakes are coming continuously

In recent times, there has been continuous seismic activity in the area. People are already alert, but this time the situation remained completely under control. Seismologists point out that Bangladesh is located at the confluence of three major tectonic plates, so the area is always at risk of earthquakes.

Dhaka is among the regions of the world where earthquake risk remains at a consistently high level. Old and dilapidated houses can suffer damage even from light shaking. People are still worried remembering the 5.7 magnitude earthquake that struck a month ago, killing 10 people and causing cracks in the walls of many houses. At that time there was a lot of damage in the area between Dhaka and Narsingdi.

Earthquake sensitive area

Even in history this area has been sensitive to earthquakes. Between 1869 and 1930, 5 major earthquakes were recorded here, whose intensity was more than 7.0. Scientists warn that there is a possibility of major earthquakes in the future also.

At present, this mild earthquake has only increased alarm and vigilance, but no serious incident has occurred. Both the administration and experts are continuously monitoring so that if any major shock occurs, timely action can be taken.
