Zepto has automated its backend supply chain automation across India after year-long efforts, the chief executive of the quick commerce platform announced in a social media post on Wednesday.
The company now processes approximately 25 lakh FMCG units each day through automated systems deployed across its network, Zepto founder and CEO Aadit Palicha stated on LinkedIn.“Today, I am excited to announce that we have scaled automation operations pan-India — as we speak, 25 lakh FMCG units get processed through automated assets across Zepto's supply chain every day!”
Palicha also attached a video showcasing the process at one of its warehouses. According to the announcement, the automation rollout has resulted in a more than 45% improvement in outbound manpower productivity compared to manual operations. This improvement is contributing to annual operating cost savings estimated in the hundreds of crores, Palicha wrote.
Zepto CEO also confirmed that its engineering teams have developed proprietary software to manage and coordinate these automated assets while integrating them with the company’s core logistics infrastructure.
“Our engineering teams have been able to build in-house software to guide these automated assets and integrate them with our core logistics systems,” he said.

The development comes amid broader supply chain challenges in the quick commerce sector. Earlier this year, ET reported that Zepto Café, the company’s 10-minute food delivery offering, had scaled down operations due to sourcing constraints and a shortage of trained staff for its kitchen facilities. At the same time, the rapid growth of quick commerce has fuelled significant demand for hyperlocal warehouses, with requirements estimated to be three times higher than supply. Small-format facilities—typically 2,000 to 8,000 sq ft and located within residential clusters are increasingly being adapted from underutilised urban spaces such as old shops, idle service apartments, and ground-floor offices, ET had learnt.
In March, Palicha also highlighted the company’s efforts to build a “Delhivery for fruits and vegetables,” noting that Zepto operates one of India’s largest direct-to-farm supply chains, processing over 20 lakh FnV units daily. More recently, in August, the startup launched a pharmacy delivery service, promising 10-minute delivery in major metros.
As Zepto continues to expand, the automation of its supply chain is expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs, as Palicha mentioned in his post.
