Cyclone Ditwah: Cyclone Ditva caused massive devastation in the southern states including Tamil Nadu. Its havoc is still visible. Due to rain, schools and colleges in Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts are still closed today. District authorities of these districts issued orders to keep schools and colleges closed late on Monday night.
According to news agency ANI, the District Collector of these three districts has announced that due to weather warning, all educational institutions of the district will be closed on December 2. Officials said that holidays have been declared in schools and colleges to ensure the safety of students amid heavy rains and the possibility of waterlogging.
Regarding the warning of heavy rain from the Meteorological Department, the administration has instructed the local people to remain alert. Disaster management agencies have said that local people should avoid traveling unless necessary. Tamil Nadu Disaster Management Minister K K S S R Ramachandran said on Sunday that three people have died in rain- incidents in Tamil Nadu due to Cyclone Ditva.
Earlier on Monday, there was continuous rain in Chennai and its surrounding districts. Due to which roads, highways and low-lying areas were submerged. Not only this, many residential areas were also flooded with rain water. Due to heavy rains, AGS Colony in Velachery was also flooded. While a car drowned in the city and a government bus got stuck due to sudden waterlogging in Poonamallee.
There were reports of traffic jams from many areas of the city including Kathipara flyover. An official said that due to sudden waterlogging and some potholes on the service road, the vehicles were submerged in water. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chennai and Tiruvallur districts till Tuesday morning due to the cyclonic storm Ditva formed near the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts.
