Kelsey Grammer recently explained why Beast, the character he played in the X-Men movies, is very similar to that of a very famous civil rights activist.

What did Kelsey Grammer say about Beast’s role in the X-Men?

Speaking to Entertainment WeeklyGrammer was asked about the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. While he said he couldn’t speak too much about it, he was overly excited to return as the character, who he likened to legendary activist Martin Luther King Jr.

“To come back as Beast has been one of the great experiences of my life,” said Grammer. “Because I always loved the character. I always thought of him as sort of the Martin Luther King of the mutant generation. He stood for rights, for equality, just a beautiful character…strong, tough, a little hairy, a little blue.”

Of course, Grammer’s comments are not too out of place with how many fans view Marvel’s X-Men. Comparisons between Professor X and Magneto and Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, respectively, have been drawn for many decades now, especially as the X-Men comics have geared more toward the prejudice and fight for equality that the mutants often face.

Grammer has also likened Beast to MLK in the past, telling The Jamie Kern Lima Show in May that he believes that the iconic X-Men is the “Martin Luther King of the Mutants” due to his dignity and dream and his willingness to fight for it.

Grammer is just one of many former X-Men stars set to return for Avengers: Doomsday when it releases on December 18, 2026. Alongside him, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, and more are set to star in the movie.
