A Marvel film branded "ridiculously bad" has become Netflix's most-watched movie.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe remains the world's biggest film franchise, thanks not only to box-office smashing Avengers films but standalone hero features including Thor, Spider-Man, Iron Man and Hulk.
Whenever the superhero franchise expands, fans inevitably rush to cinemas to explore another chapter of the MCU's story.
Predictably, this proved true for Madame Web, a Marvel action thriller starring Fifty Shades of Grey actress Dakota Johnson which premiered in February 2024.
However, fans weren't anticipating a Marvel film they couldn't help but describe as "underwhelming and nonsensical".
Achieving a disappointing 10% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Madame Web audiences shared their verdicts without restraint.
"Not much to say honestly this movie is so ridiculously bad it's funny", one viewer wrote.
Another concurred: "I've attended funerals that were more enjoyable than Madame Web.
"This should have a government health warning at the start. You will feel worse for watching it. Terrible."
One user remarked: "Wow this is just trash", whilst numerous reviewers called it "one of the worst movies I have ever seen".
Despite these overwhelmingly negative reviews, since Madame Web launched on Netflix on Saturday, November 29, it has rocketed to the number one most-watched film position.
Madame Web is currently outperforming newly-released Christmas film Jingle Bell Heist, animated movie Migration, 21 Jump Street featuring Jonah Hill and festive flick That Christmas.
The plot centres around New York City paramedic Cassandra Webb, who in Madame Web begins to exhibit signs of clairvoyance.
Her newfound visions lead her to form a close bond with three young women with promising futures, and she must do everything in her power to shield them from a lethal foe.
Dakota Johnson stars in the film alongside Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney, The Last of Us actress Isabela Merced and American Horror Story star Emma Roberts.
Madame Web is available to watch on Netflix.
