• BCCI emergency meeting

  • Discussion with Gautam-Agarkar

  • Away from displeasure of senior players?

BCCI India’s head coach ahead of the second ODI against South Africa on Wednesday Gautam Gambhirhas called a meeting of selection committee chief Ajit Agarkar and several other senior officials, in which urgent matters will be discussed. This comes amid the ongoing debate over the future of Team India’s key players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. India won the first ODI against South Africa as both of them played brilliantly. Kohli and Rohit have been batting consistently well in ODIs recently.

BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia, joint secretary Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, head coach Gautam Gambhir and national selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar are expected to attend the meeting, reports Sportstar. The report did not confirm whether newly appointed BCCI president Mithun Manhas will be present. Since the meeting is scheduled on the day of the match, it seems highly unlikely that Kohli, Rohit and other senior players will be invited.

Sources disclosed

A senior BCCI official said, “The meeting is being held to ensure selection consistency in the team, while also focusing on long-term development and overall team performance.”

The purpose of the meeting is to address the shortcomings found in the Indian team during the home Test series defeat against South Africa. With both Gambhir and Agarkar present in the meeting, the board wants to get clarity on certain aspects of management and take further action accordingly. The official said, “During the home Test season, there have been incidents of confusing tactics on and off the field. We need clarity and predictive planning, especially as the next Test series is eight months away.”

Thinking ahead to the World Cup

“The Indian team will be favorites to win the T20 World Cup next year and will be a strong contender for the ODI World Cup after that, so we want to resolve these issues early,” the official added.

This situation management and Virat Kohli And points to the lack of communication between senior players like Rohit Sharma. There were rumors that the BCCI wanted Kohli to reverse his Test retirement, but the legendary batsman has ruled out such a U-turn following the conclusion of the Ranchi ODI on Sunday.
