Actually, due to being a very low-carbohydrate diet, keto diet reduces the weight of a person rapidly. However, some experts have warned people about the harm caused by keto diet.
Many health experts believe that keto diet can be dangerous and even cause long term diseases. Recently a report regarding this was published in ‘Frontiers in Nutrition’ and ‘Seven Medicines’. Apart from this, about 123 old studies were also analyzed in institutions of America and Canada. Researchers found that the ketogenic diet not only limits carbohydrate consumption, but also affects the functioning of metabolism.
Based on the analysis, researchers also said that the disadvantages of ketogenic diet may be much greater than its benefits. He said that due to some main components present in keto diet including meat, cheese, oil, the body is not able to get specific nutrients. This is the reason why people on keto diet have a higher risk of some diseases.
Neil Barnard, professor at the School of Medicine at George Washington University, says, ‘The food products present in the keto diet can cause diseases like colon cancer, heart disease and Alzheimer’s.’ The study also claims that ketogenic diet can trigger diseases like kidney problems or diabetes.
What is keto diet?
In keto diet, preference is given to fatty foods over carbs. It includes meat, fatty fish, eggs, butter and cream, cheese, walnuts, almonds, oil, avocado, green vegetables and many types of spices.
What things should be avoided in keto diet?
People on keto diet have to avoid foods high in carbs. In this, one has to stay away from many things like sugary food, whole grains, fruits, kidney beans, pulses, potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots and honey.
