New Delhi. Heart is the most important part of our body. It works nonstop. But wrong lifestyle and eating habits cause great harm to the heart. Heart problems increase significantly during the winter season. In comparison to summer, one has to face more heart problems in winter season. As the temperature drops in winter, the heart needs to work extra hard to maintain body temperature.
When body temperature drops in winter, our sympathetic nervous system becomes active and can increase the secretion of catecholamines. This can cause narrowing of blood vessels which can increase heart rate, blood pressure, cholesterol levels and the process of blood clotting. All these things can increase the risk of heart attack. In such a situation, Dr. Zakia Khan, Senior Consultant-Interventional Cardiology of Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, has shared some tips to keep the heart healthy during the winter season. Let us know about these tips-
Don’t take stress-
Stress is the main cause of heart attack and heart diseases. Acute stress can directly lead to a heart attack, and chronic stress can cause changes in the inner lining of the heart’s arteries, causing inflammation, which can lead to blood clots and a heart attack.
Do your favorite work-
Stress can also be reduced by gardening, painting, reading and listening to music. If you want, you can also do yoga and meditation. This also proves to be quite beneficial.
Get enough sleep-
To reduce the risk of heart attack, it is important that you get complete sleep every day. Also, keep taking breaks in between while working.
Do exercise daily-
Do exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. Avoid exercising outside the house during the winter season, otherwise you may feel cold. You can also choose indoor exercise options like cycling, treadmill, yoga.
Stay away from excess salt and sugar-
Use sunflower oil or mustard oil in food. These are polyunsaturated. Be sure to include salad and fruits in your daily meal.
