Wood mafia has once again become active in Patara village of Kurara development area. These mafias are buying green trees from farmers, getting them cut and selling them at huge profits. Due to which not only the environment is being harmed but anger is also increasing among the villagers.
Earlier, the then District Magistrate of Hamirpur, Rahul Pandey had taken strict action against the wood mafia.
On his instructions, lots of many wholesale timber buyers were sealed. After this the situation remained under control for some time, but now gradually this illegal activity has started increasing again. Many villagers including Ramkishore, Kamta, Shivnarayan, residents of Jalla village of the area and Mahendra and Ram Swaroop of Patara village alleged that the wood mafia is cutting green neem trees without fear. According to them, due to lack of action their morale is continuously increasing.
Due to uncontrolled cutting of Neem trees, their number is decreasing rapidly in the area, which is a serious threat to the environment and the greenery of the village. In this regard, talks were held with District Forest Officer Anil Srivastava. He said that the matter was not in his knowledge till now, but if this is happening then investigation will be conducted by the department. The culprits will be identified and strict action will be taken against them as per rules.
