Gravy is an essential finishing touch for every roast dinner as it brings the whole meal together. While a supermarket-bought gravy that just requires mixing granules with hot water does the trick, there's nothing quite like a homemade gravy made perfectly for the specific meal.


That being said, in addition to the meat juices, a thickener like cornstarch, and perhaps some seasonings. There is another ingredient that is an absolute game-changer that must be added to your gravy. This common ingredient will take your gravy to another level, adding flavour, texture, and the best thing is, it is probably already in your kitchen.


According to recipe website, Taste, honey is the secret ingredient to a "sweet, salty, creamy, rich, decadent" and just ultimately perfect gravy.

Making your own honey gravy couldn't be any easier. All you need is:



  • 15g salted butter

  • 1 tablespoon plain flour

  • 250ml chicken stock

  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice

  • 5 sprigs fresh thyme

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons honey


To make the gravy, simply melt the butter in a non-stick pan over medium heat until it foams. Add the flour and stir for a minute or so, or until it begins to foam. Then remove the pan from the heat and gradually stir in tock or broth, lemon juice, and thyme.


Return the pan to medium heat and cook, while constantly stirring, for 10 - 12 minutes or until the gravy boils and thickens. Add in the honey and stir until combined, and then season to taste.
