Dehradun: Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change minister Bhupender Yadav on Friday said that climate change and anthropogenic factors have led to an increase in disasters worldwide, requiring a concrete global strategy.

In his video message for the three-day World Disaster Management Conference-2025 organised by the Uttarakhand State Council for Science and Technology (UCOST) here, Yadav said that the 10-point plan proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received commendable support worldwide, which is a testament to India’s leadership.

He said that under PM Modi’s leadership, India established a global organisation — the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) — which is doing excellent work on disaster-related issues.

Citing the 2023 “Silkyaara Vijay Abhiyan” in Uttarkashi as an inspiring example, the Union minister said it proved that strong will, skilled leadership, and scientific expertise can make the impossible possible under difficult circumstances.

He emphasised the need to focus on science and technology-based disaster mitigation, forecasting, and preparedness to make disaster management more effective. He said that only modern technologies, research, and international cooperation can effectively address future disasters.

Yadav expressed hope that the ideas, research, and suggestions emerging from this conference will prove beneficial to India and the world and serve as a guide in the development of multi-disaster-specific strategies.
