Flight operations for airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express are set to face interruptions as work continues to address a potential issue related to flight control in Airbus aircraft. Reports indicate that between 200 and 250 planes across the country will be affected.
On Friday, Airbus announced that intense solar radiation could lead to the corruption of critical flight control data in several A320 series aircraft. The company also mentioned that necessary software modifications would be implemented to resolve this issue, which may cause some disruptions in flight operations.
Sources revealed that several smaller A320 series aircraft operated by domestic airlines will undergo software updates or, in some cases, hardware repairs. Consequently, these aircraft will need to remain grounded for maintenance, leading to operational delays. Indian operators possess approximately 560 A320 series planes, with 200 to 250 requiring software updates or hardware repairs.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has stated that Airbus has instructed airlines to install an 'Elevator Aileron Computer' (EAC) in the affected aircraft. Typically, the EAC is utilized for flight control.
India represents a significant market for smaller A320 series aircraft, with airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express relying on these planes for their operations.
