Soon, you can update Aadhaar mobile number from home
28 Nov 2025

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is working on a new feature to allow users to update their Aadhaar mobile numbers from the comfort of their homes.

The update will use OTP verification and face authentication technology.

The move is aimed at simplifying one of the most tedious and essential services associated with Aadhaar cards.

Current process of updating mobile numbers
Existing procedure

At present, updating a mobile number on an Aadhaar card requires a mandatory in-person visit. This is because the number is linked to identity verification, authentication, and almost every Aadhaar-based service.

The current process often proves tedious for citizens due to long queues and repeated visits to enrollment centers.

This is especially difficult for senior citizens, people with disabilities, and those living in remote areas.

UIDAI's at-home update system
New feature

To tackle these challenges, UIDAI is working on an at-home update system.

The new feature will use OTP verification and Aadhaar's face authentication technology to confirm identity through a smartphone camera.

Once launched, users will only need their Aadhaar number, existing or new mobile number, and a facial recognition-enabled smartphone for the authentication step.

UIDAI has confirmed that the service will be available "soon." Once it goes live, users can expect detailed instructions and app updates.
