In Hinduism, the Ekadashi fast is considered extremely sacred and rewarding. This fast is not merely a religious ritual, but also an excellent way to purify oneself and receive the special blessings of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. There are 24 Ekadashi fasts throughout the year. Ujjain's renowned astrologer, Pandit Anand Bhardwaj, explains on which day the Ekadashi fast falls this year. It is considered a disciplined penance. According to him, the Ekadashi fast is not merely a fast, but a spiritual practice performed with discipline, restraint, and complete devotion.
Whoever observes the Ekadashi fast with devotion and discipline is cleansed of all their sins. They attain peace, prosperity, and good fortune in life. With the blessings of Lord Vishnu, positive energy, mental peace, and family happiness also increase in life.
When will the Mokshada Ekadashi fast be observed?
According to the Hindu calendar, this year, Margashirsha Shukla Ekadashi will be observed from 9:29 pm on November 30th to 7:01 pm on December 1st, 2025. Considering the Udiya Tithi, the Mokshada Ekadashi fast will be observed on December 1st.
Sleeping in the Afternoon or Waking Up Late
It is essential to avoid laziness on the day of the fast. Sleeping in the afternoon or waking up late affects mental purity and, according to the scriptures, diminishes the effect of the fast. On Ekadashi, the fasting person should follow a completely sattvic diet. Tamasic substances like garlic and onion violate the sanctity of the fast, so it is essential to avoid them completely.
Avoid Harsh Words and Negativity
During the fast, purity of mind, speech, and behavior should prevail. Speaking harsh words to someone or harboring negative thoughts defiles the fast.
Method of Worship and Religious Practices
Pt. Shukla explains that on Ekadashi, after bathing in the morning, one should worship Lord Vishnu. Offer him Tulsi leaves, yellow flowers, and Panchamrit. It is considered best to devote the day to devotion, meditation, chanting, and charity.
Make the fast successful, not merely a performance.
The purpose of Ekadashi is not to torment the body, but to purify the mind and soul. Therefore, the true success of the fast lies not in abstaining from food, but in improving one's conduct and thoughts.
