The WPL 2026 Auction in New Delhi became a full day of big bids, surprise moves, and strong planning, with all five teams working to build their squads for the new season. A total of ₹40.8 crore was spent, with 67 players picked from the 277 players who went under the hammer. Many close bidding fights, smart retentions, and some unexpected names earning high prices marked the course of the auction.

 

A total of 23 overseas players were also signed as franchises tried to build the right balance for the long season ahead.

 

Deepti Sharma Becomes Costliest Buy of WPL 2026

 

The biggest name in the auction was India's World Cup star Deepti Sharma. UP Warriorz used their RTM card to buy her back for a whopping ₹3.2 crore, making her the costliest buy of the day. This also makes her the second-highest-paid Indian in the history of the WPL, behind only Smriti Mandhana.

 

UP Warriorz also broke the bank for Shikha Pandey, signing the senior all-rounder for ₹2.40 crore. The last time Pandey played for India was in 2023 but her experience and strength with the ball made her a strong target.

 

Other stars from the recent ODI World Cup, including Shree Charani and Laura Wolvaardt, also earned good deals in the auction.

 

The 2026 WPL season will be played between January 6 and February 5, across Navi Mumbai and Vadodara.
