New Delhi. Former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has made a big revelation regarding his retirement. R Ashwin has finally told what was the real reason behind his retirement? What was that thing that broke R Ashwin and forced him to take retirement? After losing the Guwahati Test and Team India losing the Test series 2-0, Ashwin has told that he had promised himself in 2012 itself that if the Indian team lost any series at home, he would take retirement. He almost did this.
R Ashwin said in his YouTube channel Aish Ki Baat, “After losing the series against England in 2012, I had promised myself that if we ever lost another home series, I would retire. The New Zealand series loss is ultimately the reason why I am sitting at home today, it broke me.” However, R Ashwin officially retired during the five-match Test series played against Australia. He returned home after taking retirement in the middle of the series. He had said goodbye to international cricket. Later Ashwin also announced his retirement from IPL.
No one, the team is going through a change.
Team India lost the Test series against New Zealand 3-0 at home last year after more than a decade. You will be surprised to know that for the first time, the Indian team had a clean sweep at home in a Test series of 3 or more matches. What is even more shocking is that the Indian team has had to face clean sweep at home in two out of the last three series. West Indies have definitely been defeated in a series, but Team India has had to face defeat against two big teams. Sometimes we are not able to bat against spin, sometimes runs are not scored on a good pitch and bowlers are also not able to take wickets. However, the good thing was that India had drawn the Test series in England, in which both the teams won 2-2 matches.
