Parts of Britain look set to be covered under several inches of snow, the latest weather maps suggest. The dramatic maps come as the Met Office issued a yellow warning of wind with a possibility of travel disruption on Thursday and Friday.
WXCharts weather maps, which were generated using the MetDesk data on November 26, show that the snowy conditions will go as far south as Birmingham, with nearby areas experiencing 34 cm (around 13 inches) of snow on December 9. According to the maps, the unsettled conditions will begin to hit the southern areas of the country at midnight of December 9.
Initially, areas from Plymouth to Bristol will experience heavy rainfall while the temperature plummets to 0C in these areas. However, by noon, the wintry conditions will spread to other areas and parts of Birmingham, Stoke on Trent, Swansea and Bristol will be buried under the snow, the maps have suggested.
As per the maps, the worst impacted areas include Gloucestershire, Swindon, Hereford, Worcester, Bristol, Bath, Salisbury, Milton Keynes with a possibility of 13 inches of snow.
While, some parts of England will be peppered with the snowy conditions, the northern areas are likely to experience the coldest weather with temperature plummeting to -6C in Inverness and nearby.
The Met Office's long-range forecast between November 30 and December 9 reads: "Changeable and unsettled conditions are expected across the UK during this period.
"Low pressure systems will tend to dominate meaning showers or longer spells of rain for much of the UK, though there will likely be some brief settled interludes. Some heavy rain or showers are expected, most often in the west, although with a risk some of this could spread to other areas at times.
"Snow will probably be confined to high ground in the north. Periods of strong wind are possible, especially around coasts and if any deep areas of low pressure form in the vicinity of the UK.
"Some short-lived spells of drier weather are possible, particularly in the southeast. Temperatures will likely be close to average or slightly above overall."
