The Government of India has recently started e-passport service in the country. The purpose of launching this passport equipped with RFID technology and chip is to stop fake passports. If you have an old passport, you can upgrade to e-passport from your smartphone while sitting at home.
E-passport looks similar to normal passport but many technical features have been added to it. It has a chip with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, which is inside the passport cover. Complete personal information and biometric details of the applicant are stored securely in this chip. The security of this chip is linked to the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) system, so that no one can steal the data. There is a yellow colored symbol on the e-passport, by which it can be identified. In future, this will make it almost impossible to make fake passports.
