In today’s fast-paced life, irregular eating habits and sitting habits have made the problem of high cholesterol common. According to medical experts, the increasing “bad” cholesterol i.e. LDL in the body gradually accumulates in the veins and increases the risk of heart diseases. In such a situation, it can be very beneficial to include some natural things in the food, which will clean the veins and improve blood flow. According to health experts, green leafy vegetables—especially fenugreek, mustard, spinach and amaranth—play a key role in cholesterol control.
These vegetables contain high amount of soluble fiber, which helps in absorbing and expelling LDL cholesterol from the digestive system. Experts say that by regularly consuming green leafy vegetables, the cholesterol deposits in the body gradually start reducing. Apart from this, the antioxidants, Vitamin C, Vitamin K and iron present in them strengthen the heart nerves and reduce inflammation.
Nutrition experts say that people struggling with high cholesterol should include these vegetables in their daily diet. Fenugreek or spinach can be eaten by mixing it in parathas or poha for breakfast. Mustard or Amaranth vegetable is a great option for lunch. Boiled or lightly steamed green leafy vegetables are considered more nutritious because their nutrients are preserved.
Experts also recommend that these vegetables be consumed at least four to five times a week. If a person has thyroid or digestive problems, he should decide the quantity of intake only after taking doctor’s advice. Instead of cooking green leafy vegetables in butter or excessive oil, preparing them by tempering them in light oil is more beneficial for the heart.
However, vegetables are not the only solution in cases of high cholesterol. Regular exercise, plenty of water, and a low-fat diet are also essential. Nevertheless, experts believe that regular consumption of leafy vegetables can prove to be an effective natural remedy in clearing veins and controlling cholesterol. That is why it is also called the “green shield” to keep the heart healthy.
Drinking excessive water can be dangerous, it can also harm the liver.
