Three people, including senior IAS officer Mahantesh Bilgi, died in a tragic road accident in Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district in the early hours of Monday. Bilgi, managing director of Karnataka State Mineral Corporation, was traveling with his family from Ramadurg to Kalaburagi to attend a marriage ceremony when his vehicle met with an uncontrolled accident. This accident has put the entire administrative system in mourning.
According to the information received, the accident happened near Gounalli Cross of Jewargi Taluka. It is being told that suddenly a stray dog came in front of the car on the way and while trying to save it, the driver lost control. As soon as the control deteriorated, the vehicle overturned on the roadside and was badly damaged. The accident was so serious that Mahantesh Bilgi’s brother Shankar Bilgi and other family members Eranna Shirasangi died on the spot.
Seriously injured Mahantesh Bilgi was immediately taken to a private hospital in Kalaburagi, where doctors tried their best to save him, but he also died after some time. As soon as the news of the accident was received, administrative activity intensified in the area and Inspector General of Police Shantanu Sinha, Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi and many senior officers reached the hospital and took stock of the situation.
As soon as information about the accident came to light, condolence messages started coming from across the state. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Expressing his condolences on social media platform X, Shivkumar said that the demise of IAS officer Mahantesh Bilgi is an irreparable loss for the state. He expressed deep sorrow towards his family.
Mahantesh Bilgi was a 2012 batch officer of Karnataka cadre. Born on 27 March 1974, Bilgi played many important responsibilities in his career. He was also the Managing Director of BESCOM, playing a major role in the energy sector. Apart from this, he also gave administrative services in districts like Davangere and Udupi, where his working style and leadership were highly appreciated. Recently he was working on the post of Managing Director of Karnataka State Mineral Corporation.
Mahantesh Bilgi was known for his honest, sensitive and active working style. His sudden demise has shocked not only the Karnataka administration but also all those who worked with him or knew him closely. This accident once again underlines the need for awareness towards road safety.
