I'm A Celebrity viewers were left confused on Monday (November 23) evening following an announcement from hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly regarding chanes to the programme's format.

The presenting duo revealed an unexpected change to the day's schedule during the latest jungle instalment. Ant informed audiences: "We're not going into camp today but we will be opening the vote for the trial later in the show."

No explanation accompanied the statement. Later, Dec told fans: "We won't be opening the vote until later. But don't worry, we will still let you chose a celebrity to torture." It then wasn't until the very end of the show that they discussed it again but they still did not explain the change, reports The Mirror.

Upon confirming the trial vote had commenced, the hosts disclosed Ruby Wax's medical exemption. The broadcast concluded without the customary camp visit or any justification for the departure from routine.

Speculation amongst audiences centred on whether the severe weather conditions affecting camp or the pending overnight trial necessitated the change, with many describing the situation as "odd". One viewer questioned: "Ant and Dec not going into camp today?".

As the episode ended, a second viewer remarked: "Is it just me or was that a bit of an abrupt ending?" A third concurred: "It did seem a bit rushed and weird they didn't go into camp but maybe cause of the storm or the evening trial?"

One baffled viewer remarked: "It was scheduled until 20 past, very odd!" However, other viewers believed they had worked out the reason, potentially explaining why cameras didn't venture into camp.

One viewer suggested: "Maybe it's to do with the issues they had with the weather earlier?" whilst another concurred: "I'd say the storm had something to do with it." A third viewer speculated: "Maybe for something interesting tomorrow."

This comes as one I'm a Celebrity contestant was caught breaking the programme's regulations in camp. Alex Scott brought in contraband, which breaches the stringent rules imposed by I'm a Celeb producers, whilst Shona McGarty was also discovered.

Alex was seen with salt, which appears on the prohibited list of items, and was observed adding it onto the crocodile feet during Sunday night's episode. Ant and Dec subsequently confirmed it was "contraband" and stated viewers would need to wait to discover what the penalty would be.

It remains unclear whether the other campmates knew about Alex's rule-breaking at the time, or if she was acting independently. On the spin-off programme, Unpacked, guest Jill Scott commented: "I am surprised by Alex doing it as I thought she would follow the rules actually."

Seann Walsh remarked: "I was surprised by how indiscreet Alex was with putting the salt on."

This follows a rule violation last year, involving salt and teabags. Radio presenter Dean McCullough succeeded in smuggling tea bags past producers, which he secretly added to the morning's hot water supply.

When the water was distributed to fellow contestants, boxing legend Barry McGuigan expressed concern about its unusual colour.

Knowing what had happened, Coronation Street actor Alan Halsall remarked: "We got a bit of mud in the kettle but if you try it, it's not too bad."

Appearing uncertain, Barry cautiously tasted the dubious-looking water, before discovering it was actually tea. He gave his campmates a wink and announced: "Fantastic!" Their rule-breaking eventually came back to haunt them, though, as television presenter Melvin Odoom subsequently completed a challenge to secure cupcakes - but was only allowed half his prize.
