Stretching for nearly 4 kilometres, Muzhappilangad’s long, firm stretch of sand allows visitors to safely drive cars and motorbikes right along the shoreline. Here comes nature. The beach’s sand is extraordinarily compact, created by years of tidal action and coastal geography that compress the grains tightly together. This results in a surface firm enough to support vehicles without sinking or causing instability.



Because of these natural conditions, Muzhappilangad is the only beach in India where driving is officially allowed and legally recognised. Other beaches may occasionally see vehicles, but they operate under strict prohibitions or limited permissions meant only for local authorities. Muzhappilangad, however, genuinely welcomes travellers to enjoy a drive along its shoreline, as long as they follow the rules.

The beach is located about 15 kilometres from Kannur city and 8 kilometres from Thalassery, both accessible towns in North Kerala. The drive to the beach itself is scenic. A narrow road branches off from National Highway 66 and winds through a shaded lane of coconut palms before opening suddenly to the wide sandy expanse.



Nearest airport is Kannur International Airport, located about 25–30 km away, nearest railway station is Kannur Railway Station, located around 16 km away, and also the Thalassery Railway Station, around 8 km away.



Among travellers who love long drives or scenic motorbike trips, Muzhappilangad is widely known as a “must-do.” Many drive along the beach multiple times during a single visit, especially during sunrise or sunset when the lighting highlights the coastline beautifully.
