Admiration across sports is not a new thing. Recently, Caitlin Clark talked about her source of inspiration during childhood. And it was none other than a book written by one of the greatest female soccer players of all time. The name of the book was “Winners Never Quit” by Mia Hamm . It was basically a picture book that talked about Mia’s life and how the USA Women's soccer team worked for both athletes and women in general. Caitlin seems to be heavily inspired by this book. Mia Hamm was overwhelmed with the revelation and the soccer legend responded to Clark’s claim with admiration.



The book is basically an autobiography that reveals Mia’s journey of understanding the importance of teamwork. It talks about how to deal with a loss in sports without getting angry or quitting. All of these the athlete learned from her own life. Mia was highly competitive and always wanted to win. She even led her team to win their first gold medal at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. The book is a documentation of her journey in learning patience and developing resilience, the two most important things in sports.

It took no time for the athlete to reveal her favorite source of inspiration. Clark, while making the revelation, stated, “My favorite book growing up. It was like ‘ Winners Never Quit .’ This picture book and it was about Mia Hamm.”

She went on to explain how the book played a major role in her life. Caitlin further added, “And I remember like when I used to read books before I went to bed with my parents, that was the one I always wanted to pick. The resilience she had, that’s the whole story of the book. And what USA Women's soccer did for not only athletes but women in general and how they brought about people together. Like that’s just has been her ability, it’s just really to inspire people and to give back. And I don’t think I would be her if it wasn’t for them.” Clark credited all her career success to Mia and the USA Women’s soccer team.



Mia was overwhelmed by listening to Clark’s statement. She responded to the clip, saying, “First and foremost, you see how sports kind of connect everyone, and I am very honored and humbled because I am a huge fan of hers. Just to see what she has been able to do in such a short amount of time with the attention and high level of expectations.” Mia further added, “She has created that for herself. So, I feel very honored and excited to continue to see her grow as an athlete.”



It seems like both Caitlin Clark and Mia Hamm have had an influence on each other. While Clark stated that it was Mia and her book that inspired the WNBA star to play basketball, Mia adores Clark’s career arc and believes that the latter will shine further in the sport.
