Bhubaneswar: Four girls from Odisha were part of the Indian team which lifted the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind trophy.


India, led by Deepika TC, defeated Nepal by 7 wickets in the final at Colombo on Sunday to be crowned champions. To their credit, the Indian team remained unbeaten in the tournament.


The Odisha girls who did the state and country proud were Jamunarani Tudu, Parbati Marandi, Phula Soren and Basanti Hansda.



Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were among several leaders who heaped praise on the girls.


“Heartiest congratulations to the Indian Women’s Blind Cricket Team on their historic T20 World Cup victory. Your exceptional performance, discipline and determination have brought immense pride to the nation. My best wishes for your continued success and future achievements,” Mohan Majhi wrote on X.



“Congratulations to Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women’s T20 World Cup! More commendable is the fact that they stayed unbeaten in the series. This is indeed a historic sporting achievement, a shining example of hard work, team work and determination. Each player is a champion! My best wishes to the team for their future endeavours. This feat will inspire generations to come,” Modi posted on X, sharing pictures of the winning members.
