Veteran actor Dharmendra has passed away at the age of 89. He had been battling age-related ailments for over a month and breathed his last at his residence in Mumbai.

Affectionately known as “Bollywood’s He-Man” and “Dharam Paaji”, Dharmendra leaves behind a legacy spanning more than six decades. His filmography encompasses more than 300 titles, showcasing an extraordinary versatility—from the romantic lead to the tough action hero.

His debut in 1960 marked the beginning of a career that would produce several milestone films. Among his most memorable roles is that of Veeru in the cult classic Sholay, alongside standout performances in Phool Aur Patthar, Seeta Aur Geeta, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer and Pratigya. His natural charm and magnetic screen presence earned him legions of fans across the globe.

In recognition of his immense contribution to Indian cinema, Dharmendra was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 and later received the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian award. He most recently appeared in the 2024 film Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (with Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon in lead roles), in which he portrayed Shahid’s grandfather. His final film, titled Ikkis, features Agastya Nanda and will mark his on-screen swan song.

Dharmendra is survived by his wife, actress Hema Malini, his first wife Prakash Kaur, his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Although he is no longer with us, his cinematic legacy will continue to inspire future generations and remain a source of joy for audiences for years to come.
